The Hospitals that I attend are:
Mitcham private Hospital
Part of the Ramsay health group, Mitcham private Hospital provides a boutique small hospital environment. It has a large Maternity unit which occupies its own floor and provides all the Services one would expect. The Nursery is well equipped as a level 2 Nursery. This allows it to provide care to babies as premature as 32 weeks of pregnancy in appropriate cases. It also has a postnatal lactation service staffed by their own midwives and lactation consultant.
The hospital also caters for the care of challenging baby needs with a Mother and Baby Unit . This Unit is extremely helpful in helping new mothers to cope with unsettled babies. In addition, there is now a Perinatal Unit to also assist with emotional challenges a woman may have either during the pregnancy or in the postnatal period. All of this is supported by a team of Medical Psychiatrists and Psychologists.
Apart from undertaking obstetric care there, I also perform a wide range of surgery from advanced laparoscopic procedures through to complex vaginal surgery. Although it does not have an intensive care unit, the Hospital can cater for patients with complex medical problems with its High Dependency Unit.
I also perform my urodynamic studies here. This is a test for the function of the bladder and I use this for women prior to prolapse surgery as well as investigating causes of urinary incontinence.
Knox private hospital
Established in 1985, Knox hospital has grown considerably since its early days. It now provides a large range of Medical Services in addition to Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The Services are ably supported by the availability of a large Intensive Care and Coronary Care unit. In addition, there is a busy Accident and Emergency clinic.
I practice both obstetrics and Gynaecology at Knox hospital. It is my Hospital of choice for women who have complex medical problems due to the availability of the Support Services there including a urology Nurse Service. There is also a level 2 nursery capable of managing premature babies above 34 weeks gestation.
Knox hospital is one of two hospitals where I perform robotic surgery. Using the Da Vinci robotic system, I have performed hysterectomies through to resection of endometriosis and removal of fibroids. It has facilities for performing single incision robotic surgery. To date Knox does not have any arrangements with any of the Health Funds for gynaecology robotic surgery. This means you will need to pay additional hospital fees for the use of the robot.
Epworth Eastern Private hospital
Located in Box Hill opposite the Box Hill Hospital, it only provides surgical facilities. It does not have an Obstetric unit. The facilities here are extensive and include a large intensive and Coronary Care unit. It also has a large number of single private Rooms. If you do share a Room, it is normally a 2 bed accommodation.
The Hospital has a Da Vinci robotic system and it is one of the two Hospitals where I perform this surgery. It has facilities for performing single incision robotic surgery. Epworth has arrangements with many Health Funds for undertaking robotic surgery which will help to reduce the costs for this surgery.
Apart from robotic surgery, I also perform advanced endoscopic surgery and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery there. There is also a Urology Nurse Service for women following bladder incontinence surgery. Due to its facilities, I use this hospital for women with complex medical problems.
